THE LAST SHALL BE FIRST ~ GLAMOUR MODELING

In beginning a blog on the different types of modeling and the characteristics of sought-after models, I find myself going to the bottom of the barrel, not to cast disparagement, but to encourage young women to be forearmed.  Young men don’t usually lean toward glamour modeling, but the need to be aware is just as important for you guys.

These situations are not always on the up and up.  Protect yourself, your interests, and your reputation so that years from now, when you are living the dream, compromising photos of you don’t turn up and blast that dream to pieces.  The Boy Scout’s motto is “Be prepared.”  A glamour model’s motto should be, “Be Aware.”

At first glance the words, “glamour” and “fashion” seem similar, but, in the world of modeling, nothing could be further from the truth.  Just the phrase, “glamour modeling” can be alluring.  You can avoid awkward and even dangerous situations by knowing the difference between glamour and fashion modeling.

Glamour modeling is sexual modeling.  It isn’t pornography, but leans so much in a sensual direction that some photographers attempt to take liberties they shouldn’t.  For that reason alone, please don’t consider this form of modeling unless you are at least eighteen years old, wise, and have a burly guy or two willing to chaperone you to your photo shoots.  Your biggest asset isn’t your figure or your looks, but your ability to discern what is right for you.

Marilyn Monroe posed for a men’s magazine.  Betty Grable's  pinup posters were in barracks across the world during WWII. More recently, Pamela Anderson was made famous by her provocative poses and has been on the cover of Playboy more times than any other model.

Glamour models pose for calendars, boudoir photo shoots, and men’s magazines.  Some internet sites post glamour model shots as their main attraction.  Glamour models are generally nude or partially nude and can be varying heights, busty or not-so-much.  Many times sensuality can be portrayed in the eyes; however, you’ll most likely not be getting close-ups of your face.

The artsy side of you can easily imagine glamour modeling as being only a little risqué, and nothing too revealing.  Sadly, there are those who would attempt to push you into compromising your comfort and morals.  You may have heard news stories or have seen movies in which the worst case scenario played out.

You know you’re pretty.  You’ve been told that your whole life, and not just by your parents.  You’re willing to get edgy.  These are assets for a glamour model.

Have you set boundaries for your art?  Your boundaries are your best friends in this business.  Get that settled and you’ll go far.  Be willing to say “NO!” when those boundaries are pushed. Be wishy-washy and you could end up falling hard.

Glamour modeling is meant to be suggestive.  Photographers of glamour models are not selling clothes, make-up or magazines.  They are selling the look you portray and the angles at which you portray them.  Your look can be as fascinating as a Greek sculpture or could quickly mutate to distasteful.  You get to choose.  Your career as a glamour model does not hinge upon one photo shoot.  You can walk away with your head held high.  Never be shamed into compromise!

You can dress in lace or in mud and still be glamorous.  Imagine that!  Take your time on this one.  Don’t rush in where fools fear to tread.
